Pretty good book for advanced readers

It is definitely not for beginners. You should have some background in QM before starting on this book. Takes a bit long to read through because the concepts are deep and are not explicitly explained. But, it really helps the thinking process. It covers each topic deeper than most of the books. The problems at the end of each chapter require special mention. Overall, it helps one to apply QM to wide and deep range of problems in theoretical physics (not to be confused with applied QM books that can be used only for applied physics or engineering problems)

Excellent Book

If you're into to some heavy stuff and want to know more then this is the book for you. But remember you need a lot of math and physics before you'll ever understand this book.

Outstanding Quantum Mechanics Book !!!!

This is truly an outstanding Quantum Mechanics book!!! Those who disagree are nothing but a bunch of weak sissy whinners who should not be in grad school taking grad level physics in the first place!!! When I was a graduate student in physics at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, I had the distinct honor and privilege of taking a class from Professor Hecht and now looking back I can honestly say that he was simply "the best" physics professor I ever had. Yes, the material covered was hard and professor Hecht gave very, very, very tough homework problems and exams BUT of all the physics classes I ever took (and I might add that I took many for my physics PhD), the one professor Hecht taught was the one I learned the most from and remember most fondly. Professor Hecht, you did an outstanding job... stand up and be proud!!!

Watergate Revisionism at its Finest!

I read this book in two sittings and hated putting it down. For anyone who remembers the Watergate scandal, and went to see the movie "All the President's Men," this book is a piece of stunning revisionism, forcing you to re-think everything you thought you knew about the Watergate incident. In particular it is a cautionary work about the relationship of journalists to government officials, a far cry from the heroic myth perpetuated by Woodward and Bernstein. Holland has done an extraordinary job in his detective work, demonstrating a willingness to ask the questions that the two famous Washington Post reporters never did. I recommend this book to anyone interested in the Nixon years and recent American political history.

Leak

Leak is a terrific book. A number of reviewers and commentators have noted that Leak is a `page turner,' and they're absolutely right. Some readers may think they already know the story of Felt as `Deep Throat', but Holland's enthralling narrative forces rethinking about why and how Felt became a leaker, who he leaked to, who first discovered that he was a leaker, and why he had to leave the FBI. Although one reviewer criticized Holland for basing his interpretation on `circumstantial evidence', for this reader, the author makes a compelling and persuasive case that Felt was not trying to bring down a president but to win a `war of succession' in the FBI. The author's new transcripts of important Nixon tapes and interviews with key officials, including then-acting FBI director William Ruckelshaus, add to the richness of the narrative. Leak is a fine contribution to our knowledge of the history of the Nixon administration and of the FBI.

Felt was no hero.

Great book it expose Mark Felt as a snake that he was. He basically used the Post, Woodward and Bernstein to destroy his rival Patrick Gray and advance his own ambitions to become the FBI director.
Mark Felt was portrayed as a man sickened by the wiretaps and break-ins by the White House, but Felt himself, writes Holland, "authorized illegal surreptitious entries into the homes of people associated with the Weather Underground."
If Felt was a hero, why did he not come forward to tell the country what he had done and why? Because he was no hero. Mark Felt was a snake.

Every Mother's Nightmare by Mark Thomas

On Friday, February 12th, 1993 two year old James Bulger disappeared from a crowded shopping mall in Bootle, England. What followed was the most heinous of crimes committed by two 10 year old boys whose actions shocked the entire world with their brutality. Mark Thomas, a reporter for Britain's Press Association, followed the story up to the sentencing and punishment of the young criminals. This book, whilst not going into graphic detail of the crime, attempts to analyse not only the reasoning behind this crime but also the degeneration of youth and what future generations may NOT look forward to in terms of public safety.

While Ralph and Denise Bulger still work through the grief of losing their son, society has to wonder if this type of juvenile recklessness might become a growing trend. 'Every Mother's Nightmare' touches on the reasons for this - broken homes, lack of parental discipline, lack of positive role models, lack of moral fiber in both homes and schools, and of course, a severe lack of positive education. Still, the question remains, did these two pre-pubescents do what they did out of some inability to distinguish right from wrong or were they really just products of their environment? Despite being tried in Bootle's South Sefton Magistrate's Court and showing no remorse for their actions, other than distress over their capture, did they ever understand the ramifications of their actions or how this crime affected everyone involved?

The reader discovers that not only were they not concerned about future consequences but that their actions were carefully pre-meditated and that, when questioned, neither was willing to admit guilt but rather place the blame upon the other. The reader also has to make their own judgements in this case as Thomas, true to journalistic integrity, maintains straight facts without taking sides - something to be commended when writing about such a despicable crime.

As previously mentioned, this book does not go into the gruesome details of the death of little James Bulger but is still shocking enough to move even the most ardent fan of true crime (such as myself). But don't read it for shock value - read it as a stunning expose of the collapse of morality and the loss of innocence.

Good book but...

This is an interesting book and a harrowing tale. The trouble is the Kindle edition is full of typographical mistakes which is atrocious considering the retail price. Nearly every page contains a spelling error or typo. Has anyone bothered to proof read this book before charging good money for it?

I was really looking forward to reading this book...... But i can't! It has waaayyyy too many typos in it. Im actually really annoyed that i paid almost $10 for a book that i can't read! It should've been proof-read before being put up for sale!

The Black Swan

My son recommended reading The Black Swan to me. I had no idea what it was about or I likely would not have read a "financial book". I am an artist and tend to avoid this type of reading.
Coincidentally, I had just had a negative experience with a financial adviser and found the timing for this book perfect. The Black Swan is an occurrence that has great impact and is unforeseen. It is often what determines the success or failure of the quality of your financial life. That pretty much describes anything in the area of finances that matter.
The book is interesting, but more importantly funny, and easy to read. It is not your typical "how to" financial book. Just the opposite, it is a why you should stay away from a financial adviser... book. I learned a great deal and really look at the world of finances and the world in general in a different and a more positive way. This is a great book and I highly recommend it.

Black Swans in "The Black Swan"

There are true pearls in this book. Umberto Eco's "Anti-Library," Yevgenia's story, Algazel's rejection of science, "scalable" jobs and the antechamber of hope (anyone working one of these jobs will relate strongly), are a few examples. The problem is that they are hard to find and come somewhat unexpectedly, i.e., they are black swans. I think the problem is that the author apparently set out to write some kind of "treatise" and felt that the book had to be a weighty 500-page tome, so he had to include a lot of filler. Properly edited, this could have been a delightful 200-page read. Sometimes the author is wrong: for example, he dismisses linear phenomena too casually. It is obvious that nothing is nature is linear, since this would require the response to increase or decrease without bound as the independent variable increases or decreases, which is an impossibility. This is called the "Law of Diminishing Returns." The point is that many or even most phenomena behave linearly over a limited interval of interest. For example, a transistor is a linear device if biased (by means of proper voltage application) to its amplifying region, otherwise it behaves as a switch (as in digital devices). The author is prone sometimes to self-aggrandizing, but this is tempered with dashes of self-deprecating humor, making the reading tolerable. All in all, it's recommended. [This review is based on a reading of the first seven chapters; it will be updated as the reading proceeds.]

A Glorious Romp through epistemology

How do we know what we know? and Why do we think we know what we think we know? If I were still young and beautiful I would throw myself at this man's feet. A glorious romp through philosophy an depistemology, masquerading as a book about finance. I'm sure many other reviews have noted how prescient this book was, coming out just before that horrendous Black Swan, the housing meltdown of 2008. A great book to read along with reading and watching "The Big Short." The guy is hilarious and sophisticated. It's one of the few books I've read in adult like that forced me to keep consulting a dictionary-- and dynamic and fascinating enough to make me return to the text after doing so. One of my best books of the last couple of years.

Dr. Nelson is the author of over 90 journal articles focusing on organizational stress management, gender at work, and leadership. Her research has been published in the ACADEMY OF MANAGEMENT EXECUTIVE, ACADEMY OF MANAGEMENT JOURNAL, ACADEMY OF MANAGEMENT REVIEW, MIS QUARTERLY, ORGANIZATIONAL DYNAMICS, JOURNAL OF ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR, and other journals. In addition, she is coauthor/coeditor of several books, including ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR: SCIENCE, THE REAL WORLD, AND YOU; POSITIVE ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR (Sage, 2007); ORGANIZATIONAL LEADERSHIP (South-Western, Cengage Learning, 2004); GENDER, WORK STRESS, AND HEALTH (American Psychological Association, 2002); ADVANCING WOMEN IN MANAGEMENT (Blackwell, 2002); and PREVENTIVE STRESS MANAGEMENT IN ORGANIZATIONS (American Psychological Association, 1997). Dr. Nelson has also served as a consultant to several organizations including AT&T, American Fidelity Assurance, Sonic, State Farm Insurance, and Southwestern Bell. She has presented leadership and preventive stress management seminars for a host of organizations, including Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Conoco/Phillips, Oklahoma Gas and Electric, Oklahoma Natural Gas, and the Federal Aviation Administration. She has been honored with the Greiner Graduate Teaching Award, the Chandler-Frates and Reitz Graduate Teaching Award, the Regents' Distinguished Teaching Award, the Regents' Distinguished Research Award, and the Burlington Northern Faculty Achievement Award at OSU. Dr. Nelson also serves on the editorial review boards of the JOURNAL OF ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR, JOURNAL OF LEADERSHIP AND ORGANIZATIONAL STUDIES, and LEADERSHIP.

Dr. James Campbell (Jim) Quick is John and Judy Goolsby Distinguished Professor in the Goolsby Leadership Academy, Distinguished Professor in the Academy of Distinguished Teachers, and Professor of Organizational Behavior in the Department of Management, College of Business at The University of Texas at Arlington. He earned an A.B. with Honors from Colgate University. He earned an M.B.A. and a Ph.D. at the University of Houston. He completed postgraduate courses in behavioral medicine (Harvard Medical School) and combat stress (University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio). Dr. Quick is a Fellow of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, the American Psychological Association, and the American Institute of Stress. Dr. Quick's and his brother's signature theory is preventive stress management, now in the APA Dictionary of Psychology (2007). Dr. Quick has over 100 books, book chapters, journal articles, and clinical monographs in 10 languages. Dr. Quick's awards and recognitions include Beta Gamma Sigma and Phi Beta Delta honor societies membership; The Maroon Citation (Colgate University Alumni Corporation, 1993); 2002 Harry and Miriam Levinson Award (American Psychological Foundation); and a Presidential Citation (American Psychological Association, 2001). Quick won the 2007-2008 Honors College Outstanding Faculty Award and 2009 Award for Distinguished Record of Research at UT Arlington. Colonel Quick, United States Air Force Reserve (Ret.) was Distinguished Visiting Professor of Psychology, 59th Medical Wing (1999) and Visiting Scholar, United States Military Academy at West Point (2007). His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, and National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star. He currently serves by appointment from Secretary of Defense Robert Gates on the Defense Health Board's Psychological Health External Advisory Subcommittee.

Great Book

This is a great book for starting to unravel the puzzle of organizational behavior. The class was great and based on trust. Before you can trust someone or thing, you have to know what to expect. This book gives that background knoweldge. There are also sections devoted to motovation. Team members will not be motovated as much if they don't trust you.

This is a great book and should be a key text for any major and really anyone who has ever or will ever have a job. This puts words to what we've all experienced in the workplace and has great insight into how to navigate co-workers and bosses. [...] was a great seller and there service exceeded my expectations when they took care of an issue that was USPS's fault.
