A solid study companion for the CISM

Good resource if you need to brush up on the exam question format and vocabulary. The book really only consists of 100 questions with detailed explanations of the reasoning behind the answers. There is a test exam of those 100 questions at the back. Used it to write the exam last weekend and feel like it was sufficient for me to pass. You *must* have prior industry experience, this book will not take you from zero to pass if you don't understand the industry and concepts in the book.

Money Origami Kit

The packaging of this book is beautifully designed with a box, some sample money to play with, written instructions and how-to movies of all the folds. I always find a video of origami a thousand times easier to follow than written instructions. So that was appreciated here and well worth the price.

I bought The Money Origami Kit as a gift for someone who knows nothing about origami but says he wants to know how to make money folds. I thought this a perfect way to introduce him to origami where he can learn some of the easier diagrams and at the same time create something that has special meaning for him.

Michael LaFosse's Origami Money Kid is a wonderful gift for anyone including yourself.

Best book/DVD for beginners

I've purchased three books on Origami, and this is by far the best, thanks to the included DVD which shows you exactly how to make the folds and is very well done. The other books I bought are confusing and not all that helpful, however I must admit with the Money Origami DVD, it helps to make the other books a bit more useful. I strongley recommend this package over all others that I've seen; at least for a beginner. Hope this helps!

Almost everyone with a general or humanities education will have heard of the Oedipus complex. Not many, however, will know much about the ancient origin of the expression. Here’s an excellent opportunity to expand and enrich one’s understanding. Even though this text is intended specifically for the classroom, it provides a lot of information to round out a general education, and does so using excellent organization and clarity in its presentation.
The full text of Oedipus Rex by Sophocles is presented here, but in contemporary English vocabulary and syntax rather than the more common and now-arcane, sub-Shakespearean formulations usually found in works on the ancient Greek dramas. This is, indeed, a fresh and meritorious feature. The author adds several other features that enhance the reader’s experience. These include: general information about the Greek theater, Oedipus Rex as the first detective story, the myth of Oedipus, the Greek conception of tragedy and its similarity to the Titanic movie, and more. Thought-provoking look at slavery in USA

The book is somewhat old, the 2nd edition being 1990 with the first being 1977. This means there are statements about no definitive proof that Jefferson fathered the Hemming children. But I found the book to be very readable and at many times I stopped myself and said, "I never thought of that" or "I never looked at it from that perspective" Interesting concepts about Black/slave marriages, or that America was never founded for anyone except white "elites"--certainly not for slaves or savages. Since the author died in 1989 there will never be a third edition

Bible for foundation engineer

This book has been a Design manual for many years for a practising engineer like me, who has found extensive usage of this book for all types of foundation problems. The fifth edition of the book has many additional features like many user friendly programs included in the floppy and many worked out examples which explain the step by step procedure for using the programs. In the chapter on Sheet pile wall design , the presentation of conventional 'free' and 'fixed earth'methods have been dispensed with and the author recommends the usage of FEM methods instead,due to the easy availability many of the author's FEM programs.But a comparison of the results of any sheet pile problem solved by the conventional and the FEM methods along with the author's explanation would have helped the users to understand the basic difference in approach by the two methods.Since FEM approach of the author does not consider the active earth pressure below the dredgeline( the reasons for this assumption is not clearly explained ),the method gives very much lower embedment depth as compared to the conventional approach wherein stability is checked with active earth pressure upto the bottom of the sheet pile.Hence the FEM approach needs to be used with caution. On the whole the book is a real treasure

I regret this purchase. If you want to know how to do these calculations...do not buy this book. If you would like to blindly use a diskette to solve problems...well by all means purchase now.

Too Focused on the Analysis Software

I was very impressed with an earlier edition of Bowles' book as he had some very well-explained design examples (the best I had seen on design of sheet-pile walls). When I purchased this edition, I was dismayed to find that the text is very much centered around the software included with the book. In some cases the author provides sample computer output rather than illustrative design examples. This text left me regretting making the purchase, and hoping to find a used copy of one of the earlier editions.
