About the Author

Born in Tokyo 1967, Nekoyama has been a life-long lover of cats. Cats and their endearing mischief have never failed to cheer her up. She created her first Amineko by accident and has never looked back. Today, she and her husband are the proud parents of many Aminekos. Nekoyama’s first book, A Day In the Life of Amineko, was published in Japan in 2005.

Great fun!

I first bought the Japanese version of this book in Japan in 2005, not knowing any Japanese, but managing to crochet some really cute cats from it nonetheless despite the fact that I am a novice crocheter. I am so pleased it has been made available in English and that none of the original book was changed to appeal to different cultural tastes, and I quickly snapped-up this English version to supplement my Japanese version.

This English publication is exactly the same book translated from Japanese, and the fact that I was able to crochet a cat from the Japanese version tells you just how easy it is to follow Japanese crochet instructions such as are in this book. Why? Because the key crochet instructions are written in chart format. With the remainder of the book translated, the reader has the added bonus of being able to follow suggestions for variations and instructions for sewing accessories like a futon, a pillow, sardine, or maybe squid for crocheted cats.

This book isn't so much about liking cats or not (and I do like them), nor is it about getting 104 pages of instructions to make different kinds of cats, it's about easy-to-follow crochet instructions for the basic crocheted dolls (Japanese word: amigurumi) that look like funky cats pictured on the book cover, and fun artistic photos of crocheted cats doing silly stuff. Think of it as part crochet pattern book and part coffee table book, but in softcover format, as opposed to the expensive and wasteful hard cover books as most Americans think of when they think of coffee table books. Open your mind and loosen-up, this is a fun little book, and use it as a launching point to create your own crocheted animals or dolls as you desire.

I love these cats!

I'm a huge fan of cats, so when I saw this book at a fabric store I just had to get it. Strange thing is, I didn't even know how to crochet. (This book has crochet instructions.) So a week after picking up this book, I have my very own Amineko. He has so much personality (he poses well) that I have to carry him with me almost everywhere like I'm a child attached to the toy. I'm now making them for my nieces and nephews, who are sure to love these guys. They will make splendid birthday and holiday gifts. I'll probably make a lot of them to donate to Toys for Tots come Christmas.

This book is super cute. I realize that if you are looking for a wide variety of patterns, this may not be the book you're looking for. However, I think the pictures give some great ideas about what can be done to customize the pattern. If you are a die-hard amigurumi fan, I think this should definitely be added to your collection. If you just want to make the amineko, the author does offer the pattern in chart form, for free online. You just need to do a search for it.

Fantastic

Rae has come a long way in this book. She's almost grown up. She still has this thing for Devon, but he breaks up with her. Enter Luke, the good looking guy who works for the other side. Things get messy when Luke finds a locked box belonging to Rae's mother. Could she be alive somewhere? Are has to find out.

Luke is not one of Devon's favorite people. He obviously has a thing for Rae. As Luke tries to help Rae, he is brutally attacked and left for dead. But he has a piece of paper in his hand as he lays crumpled on the floor.

Follow this book as you find out the next step in Rae's journey to find her mother and keep Devon for herself. It is amazing.

Best technical coverage of the subject!

It can be called a bible of U-boat design.Because its writer has a long experience over the subject. I recommend all designer to have this book on their shelves!
Unfortunately it needs some modification by considering recent developments on submarine design.
It can be good for those who wanna design U-boats for themselves.But its reading needs some knowledge of general engineering.
I recommend it for all Submarine fans.
