This is the most useful version of this essential manual yet! Much more user friendly than before, it should be consulted by anyone planning a trip abroad, preferably starting at the introduction through to the section on travelers with special needs, omitting only diseases not expected on the itinerary. It is essential in every travel medicine clinic and desirable at most travel agencies and public health agencies. Infectious disease specialists and primary care physicians dealing with frequent travelers would find it useful to keep at hand. And, compared to most medical textbooks, it's a downright steal at fifty bucks.

I am a travel medicine specialist and this is our "bible". I buy one for every office every two years. This edition is definitely an upgrade as the maps are more useful and the information presentation is better than in previous versions. It is always nice to provide client's with a good "visual" as to why we make certain recommendations.

The standard health reference for foreign travel

This book pretty much has all the necessary information regarding health risks to travelers abroad. It is a reference book, not a novel, so it's great for looking things up but not exactly a page burner. Plan on using this a few months before departure, since some immunizations require a second dose. It's also available on Kindle, handy while traveling.

We live in a world torn by divisions and tensions based on the plurality of religions and subsequent acts of violence and terror in the name of God. The need for free and frank dialogue among different world religions has never been more compelling. This complex topic gets a forceful presentation in this book by one of the champions of this cause for decades.
Francis Cardinal Arinze who heads the Pontifical Council for Inter-religious Dialogue of the Catholic Church, offers his personal reflections on the advantages and risks involved in such dialogue. He deals with the questions and concerns that an ordinary Catholic may have about inter-religious dialogue. He gives clear and precise answers to the possible questions and doubts, providing valuable practical guidelines. His honesty, simplicity and clarity of expression make this book an important tool for those engaged in inter-religious dialogue. He is emphatic about the need for mutual respect and understanding among the religions and about the commitment of the Catholic Church to the cause of inter-religious dialogue.
Francis Cardinal Arinze, born and brought up in Nigeria was ordained a priest in 1958 and was appointed Archbishop of Onitsha, Nigeria in 1967. Pope John Paul II elevated him to the College of Cardinals and appointed him the President of the Council for Inter-religious Dialogue in 1985. He travels extensively meeting the leaders of various religions and participating in inter-religious dialogues and conferences. Cherian George assesses why the PAP's 'freedom from the press' model has lasted longer than many other authoritarian systems. He suggests that one key factor has been the PAP's recognition that market forces could be harnessed as a way to tame journalism. Another counter-intuitive strategy is its self-restraint in the use of force, progressively turning to subtler means of control that are less prone to backfire. The PAP has also remained open to internal reform, even as it tries to insulate itself from political competition. Thus, although increasingly challenged by dissenting views disseminated through the internet, the PAP has so far managed to consolidate its soft-authoritarian, hegemonic form of electoral democracy.

Interesting, informative summary of state power in Singapore

This is the book I wish I'd read before being transferred to the Singapore office. To American eyes, it tells the chilling story of *how* and *why* Singapore has successfully maintained a one-party, semi-authoritarian state while growing economically. At 210 pages+/-, it's a quick, informative, gripping read that leaves you with a mixture of respect and revulsion (that is, unless you're a fan of Orwellian Big Brother).

The book is outstanding and informative, but the product description of the used product was not as expected. Almost ever single page was marked with highlighter and marker. Some pages were unreadable. The description of a "good" used book was incorrect without a shadow of a doubt.
